Yesterday was quite a painful day. Since the weather warranted, I was wearing sandals as I was preparing my lunch. I got everything I needed out of the fridge and closed the door; that was when I felt one of the most excruciating thing I have ever felt in my life. (Did you know that they word crucify comes from the same root word as excruciating? Definitely says something about the pain.) I looked down at my foot and saw my toe lying next to my sandal! Just kidding. But seriously: I looked down and saw blood gushing from a newly placed cut on my left big toe. I knew that a cut couldn’t be causing me that much pain so I looked closer and saw that my toe nail had been lifted from my toe. It was just kind of floating there, attached only at the base of the nail. I quickly pushed it back down where it belonged and made many painful groaning/whimpering sounds until Michelle came to investigate. She was kind enough to finish making my lunch, and she even made me an iced latte while I bandaged myself. I decided that I should probably wear shoes to protect my toe for the rest of the day. During a break at work I changed the band aids and inspected my toe. It was better than it was in the morning in the sense that it wasn’t profusely gushing blood. (I always like to use the adverb ‘profusely’ when describing my bleeding. It makes it sound so much more terrible.)
As of this morning I am no longer in immense pain, but I was scared to go to the fridge. I had wrapped a piece of medical tape around my toe yesterday to keep the nail down, and it looks like it is comfortable back where it originated. Hopefully it will be fine without any further problems like infections and gangrene.
