White Earbuds

Ever since the Apple iPod came out, we’ve seen people everywhere wearing the signature white earbuds. The iPod and the earbuds have always annoyed me. The iPod doesn’t do anything that other MP3 players don’t do, plus they cost more. The iPod and the earbuds have been more of a fashion statement than an MP3 player and headphones, and that’s what has annoyed me. I’ve never really been one to buy into “fashionable” things. However, I have always been one to buy cool gadgets. When Apple unveiled the iPhone I was caught between wanting a cool gadget, and not wanting to be “fashionable” like all the cool kids.

I convinced myself to not buy one when they first came out. My Samsung Blackjack did everything the iPhone did, and more. But the iPhone was just so cool. So when Apple announced the iPhone 3G, I decided it was time for me to join the Cool Kids Club. Plus, Andrew has had an iPhone, and I didn’t want him to be cooler than me.

On July 11th I stopped by the AT&T store 30 minutes prior to opening. There was a line wrapped completely around the building, which incorporates a Barnes and Noble. I turned around and went home. The next morning Michelle and I went back to the store. There was a line halfway around the building, so we drove to another AT&T store. They didn’t have any, but they ordered two for us. They came in a week later, and I’ve been a cool kid ever since.
