I'm not sure that I would want to go back to using cassette tapes. I use my iPhone to listen to music on a daily basis, whether around the house or at work. I carry all 1,059 songs that I have collected through the years with me at all times.

From the article:

It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8117619.stm

A lot has been happening lately. Michelle and I have been remodeling rooms in our house since we moved back to Hiawassee. We've almost completed the kitchen, and we're very proud of it. When we finally complete it, I'll write about it in detail and post pictures of it on my journal.

Also, I was involved in a serious accident while at work yesterday. I hydroplaned and struck a stopped vehicle at 60 miles per hour. I'm incredibly sore, but no one was seriously injured. I'll also write more about this incident and post pictures of the vehicle once I get approval from my department.

Another one of Matt's CDs that I "borrowed" during high school was a collection of John Michael Talbot's songs. Here's Creed 1 for your enjoyment (just click the play button below). I love the tempo changes throughout the song, and the variety of instruments that are included. I can (and do) listen to this song over and over again. Head over to his website to read about his amazing journey through life and his organization, The Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage.

A few years back at one of the Angie Aparo concerts Michelle and I went to, Angie played Coldhearted. He said that one day he was sitting around with some country music singer/songwriters talking about music. They asked him if he had a "break up" song. He did not, so he wrote the following:

[qt:video/Coldhearted.mov 160 120]

Angie released Hush on the album The American. It was immediately one of my favorite songs from the album. In concert he always asks the audience to help sing part of the music; not the words themselves, but the music. In this video he starts singing the part at 3:32, but them moves on. During the shows we sing the part throughout most of the song, and at the end (the part where he moves on in this video) we continue and it's almost a duet between Angie and the audience. I love when an artist uses their voice as an instrument. We seldom think of a voice as an instrument, but Angie Aparo does just that.

[qt:video/Hush.mov 240 180]

Michelle and I went out for dinner Saturday night, and then stopped by The Daily Grind for some coffee and tea afterwards. When we walked in there was a musician, Matt Thien, singing and playing his guitar. I purchased a CD on the way out, and when I got home I went to add his website to my Links page. That's when I realized that I never started or completed the page.

So the Links page is now complete. If you read my journal and your website is not on my links page, send me an email and I'll add it.

Before I left for a summer long tour with the Scenic City Drum and Bugle Corps, I recorded the CD to a cassette tape so I could listen to it on the long bus rides between shows. The CD is all sacred choral music from Beethoven to Verdi to Samuel Barber. I've included one of the songs from the CD: Miserere Mei Dues composed by Gregorio Allegri.

Now that I can put songs directly in my posts for everyone to listen to, I'll probably be doing it more often. As I've said in so many other posts, music is such an integral part of my life. Today's song is Killing for Jesus by Angie Aparo. The style of this song is very unlike his other songs, but it's very much something that he would write. The song is reminiscent of anti-Vietnam War songs. Click his image below to purchase his songs; click the play button to listen to the song. If you're reading this through an RSS feed (like on my Facebook) you'll have to go to my site to listen to the song.

Killing for Jesus, dying for Mohammed
Taking it to the streets and it's wrong and
I don't believe that's what they ever wanted
Killing for Jesus, dying for Mohammed

Why can't we get together
Try to love each other, better
Come on, come on, come on

I don't know why all kinds of people
Can't be alright with all kinds of steeples
I don't believe that's what they ever wanted
Killing for Jesus, dying for Mohammed

Why can't we get together
Try to love each other, better
Come on, come on, come on

Oh, all the way from the east to the west
Can we work it on out, can we clean up this mess
Oh, you know it could be wonderful
Can we meet up in the middle down in Istanbul

Killing for Jesus, dying for Mohammed
Taking it to the streets and it's wrong and
I don't believe that's what they ever wanted
Killing for Jesus, dying for Mohammed

Why can't we just remember
We're all in this together
I wonder if we'll ever
Try to love each other, better

Come on come on come on

Lyrics:
WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOR?
By Tyrone Wells

People get ready
There’s something in the air
Creeping in slow so we don’t even notice
Brothers and sisters beware

People get ready
Open up your eyes
Hatred and violence, millions fall silent
We don’t even hear their cries

It’s time to love one another, we’re sisters and brothers
What are we fighting for?
Too many backs that are breaking, lives being taken
What are we killing for?
I think it’s time for forgiveness, to rise up and end this
What are we waiting for?
Love teach us the way, to overcome hate
And weapons of war

People get ready
What’s your loaded gun?
Silent indifference
Hunger for vengeance
Or words from a wicked tongue

People get ready
Only you can choose
What you will do
When it comes down to you
No one else can walk in your shoes

It’s time to love one another, we’re sisters and brothers
What are we fighting for?
Too many backs that are breaking, lives being taken
What are we killing for?
I think it’s time for forgiveness, to rise up and end this
What are we waiting for?
Love teach us the way, to overcome hate
And weapons of war

Oh my Lord
I have a dream
Oh my Lord
One day we’ll see
Oh my Lord
All men be free
Oh my Lord
I still believe

People let's love one another, we’re sisters and brothers
What are we fighting for?
Too many backs that are breaking, lives being taken
What are we killing for?
I think it’s time for forgiveness, to rise up and end this
What are we waiting for?
Love teach us the way, to overcome hate
And weapons of war

But as I sit here in the Social Science building at KSU, I notice that the average height of the freshman and sophomore girls is between 5'0" and 5'3". Michelle and I have discussed it before, and we've come to the conclusion that we are systematically breeding shorter women. I've noticed the same thing--though not as severe--with the guys. This picture is a computer generated suit of armor, but I think if the US Army wore things like this into battle, there would be less battles to fight.

I'm listening to Pandora Radio <pandora.com>. Pandora is a free internet radio station website. It's very unique as well. When you go to their website, you'll be given the chance to sign up. You don't have to, but I suggest that you do. Once you've created your free account (or if you opt not to sign up, you can still do this) you type in the name of an artist or song that you like. They'll play the song you choose, or a song from the artist that exemplifies their musical style. Once that song finishes, it will play a song similar to the one you just heard. One of the great things is that it introduces you to new artists and bands that you may not have previosly heard of. If you don't like the song that's being played, you can click a "thumbs down" button on the picture of the album, and they'll avoid that song, and others like it. If you like the song, click the "thumbs up" button and they'll play more like it. If you create an account, you can make radio stations that will be displayed each time you sign in.

I'm going through my old journal entries and giving them titles and categorizing them. Most of them did not have titles, or if they did, it did not import the titles when I changed to WordPress. It's a tedious process, but it kept me busy in class this morning. I enjoy my classes, but they get a little boring sometimes. My Police in America class comes second nature to me, as well as my Criminal Law class.
