Bathroom Remodel

Michelle and I began doing a small bathroom remodel: we replaced the tile shower surround with a very nice three-piece fiberglass surround. We purchased the surround from Home Depot in the clearance section for $50. The original price? $550.

One thing lead to another, and we discovered mold behind the drywall; a lot of mold. So, we stripped the bathroom down to the studs and subfloor. Fortunately, we installed a full bathroom in the basement when we finished it for Michelle’s grandmother to live in.

This is a picture of the new floor that we installed. I just have to seal it, and we can put the new toilet in. You can also see some of the bead board we’ve installed on the lower half of the walls. The top half has mold resistant drywall, and they’ll be separated with a nice chair rail. I also installed a vent fan to help prevent any future mold.

One of the perks of living in Hiawassee is the beautiful sunsets over the lake and mountains. I snapped this picture with my phone one evening.

A Storm is Brewing

I heard thunder rumbling in the distance, and looked out the window to see this. With all of the April showers of late, I hope this one passes us by.

Apple Blossoms

Our apple trees bloomed a short while ago, and I took this picture. Unfortunately, a late frost hit and killed some of the blossoms. We’ll have to wait to see if the frost also killed the fruit. Last year, we lost quite a bit of apples and pears due to a late frost.

We also planted a golden delicious, a pear, and a peach tree. They were all planted after the frost, and look like they’ll be healthy this year.

The Beginning of a Quilt

For our two-year anniversary and Michelle’s 25th birthday, I got her a quilt pattern and a bunch of fabric. She’s just recently became interested in sewing, and is doing an awesome job at it. This will be her first full-sized quilt.

The fabric that I picked out came rolled up in a cool little package. Here’s a picture I took before we ruined it by unrolling it.

Corn Crib

This corn crib was built by Michelle’s great-grandfather, and was used for the drying and storing of corn. It hasn’t been used as a corn crib in two generations, but Michelle and I will soon be using it as it was intended. It has some awesome neon fungus growing on the side that was begging to be photographed.
